WHO: Family Outreach of Amherst (FOA) is the safety net for low-income families in Amherst and the surrounding communities. We are unique in our ability to address all the issues struggling families face: mental health, domestic violence, addiction, housing, and life skills. We believe the families we work with are experts in their own lives and should be active participants in creating change in their lives.
FOA is a program of CHD (Center for Human Development, a large, internationally accredited social service organization in Western Massachusetts). As a small program of a large agency, we share in the savings and benefits of sophisticated fiscal, personnel, technical, and other support services, while maintaining the advantage of being a grassroots, community-based program.
WHY: Funds raised at this event will assist Amherst area families who have received an eviction notice or a notice for utility shut-off. FOA caseworkers help families resolve their immediate crisis and then work with them on an on-going basis to help them gain the skills necessary to stabilize their lives so that their children have a safe, warm place to call home
