Goodwin Park and Keney Park Golf Courses are challenging all Connecticut golfers to take a swing at glory by entering the Greater Hartford Amateur Championship. Formerly known as the Hartford District Amateur Championship, the 56th annual tournament will be held from Saturday, September 22 to Sunday, September 23rd. Past champions include Jason Goshdigian, Mike Bedus, Steven Ayers, Dave Szewczul, Mike Colandro & Billy Torza.
“Some of the most talented local players have played in this tournament,” said Joe Mentz, Head Golf Professional at Goodwin. “New for 2018, we will crown a City of Hartford Champion and Senior Champion. “
Also new for this year, Round 1 of the 36 hole stroke play competition will be played at the newly renovated Keney Park Golf Course and the Final Round will be played at Goodwin Park Golf Course. Participants will make their own starting times for round 1 and will be paired based on score for final round at Goodwin Park. All participants must be registered at the time of reserving starting time. No exceptions made.
The entry fee is $150.00 and includes Green Fee, Prizes and Lunch after round 2 at Goodwin Park’s Hangar restaurant. Divisions include- Overall Gross, 4 Net Divisions & Senior/ Super Senior Gross and Net contest (age 50 for Senior and age 65 for Super Senior). To be eligible for the Net Contest, players must have a valid USGA Handicap.
Participants can register online at www.goodwinparkgolfcourse.com or in the golf shop at Goodwin Park Golf Course. The field is limited to the first 124 registered amateurs. The registration deadline is September 19th at 5PM.
“Golfers who haven’t played our Hartford courses recently will be awed by the renovations,” said Mentz. “The greens are impeccable and Keney has been redesigned to be a bit more difficult.”
Mentz notes that both courses are encouraging experienced golfers and those who are new to the game to come out and play. They have hosted the first CT Latinas Golf Team, PGA Junior Golf Camps and Leagues and PGA HOPE (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere), for Veterans with physical and emotional disabilities.
Now they are honoring those who serve in law enforcement, as first responders and as active military personnel by offering $5 off greens fees every Monday, Friday and Saturday after 1 pm. at Goodwin Park. Keney Park is offering the discount Monday through Friday 11am – 1 pm and after 1 pm on the weekends.
